Hydrocollator packs utilize moist heat to raise temperatures of the soft tissues below the skin to increase blood flow by enlarging blood vessels in the area that the packs are applied. This then relaxes the tissues and temporarily relieves a patient’s pain. Hydrocollator packs can reduce joint stiffness and prepare the tissues for rehabilitation work after an injury, as well as reduce spasms (chronic or acute), and increase flexibility and range of motion. Chiropractors find this therapy useful in providing relief for patients and to effectively adjust an area once an injury has successfully progressed to the subacute stage of healing.
